Terms

This site is a preview. It is not taking quote requests yet. The job form does not submit, and nothing you type into it leaves your browser or reaches us. The sections below marked when requests open describe what will happen when they do, and are written in advance deliberately so the rules are published before any data is collected rather than after.

What FixTrade is, and is not

FixTrade introduces you to tradespeople. We are not the contractor. When you accept a quote, the contract for the work is between you and that tradesperson. They set their prices, they decide what the job needs, they carry it out, and they are responsible for it. We are not a party to it and we do not supervise the work.

What we do not check

Anyone can join FixTrade free as a guest, and a guest's qualifications, registrations and insurance are not verified by us. Do not read a listing on this site as a recommendation or as evidence that someone is qualified.

For work that is legally restricted (gas, most electrical work, and other trades depending on where you live), ask to see the registration and check it yourself with the body that issues it. In Great Britain, gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and you can verify any registration number directly at gassaferegister.co.uk. Checking takes a minute and is worth doing whoever you hire, including someone you found through us.

What our verification means

Some tradespeople on FixTrade are Verified. For a Verified tradesperson we check their identity and their business details, such as company registration and public liability insurance, using the practices we describe in the product, on a best-efforts basis and at the time the check is made. A Verified badge tells you those checks were passed at that point. It is not a guarantee of the quality of their work, of the outcome of your job, or that a registration or an insurance policy is still in force on the day they attend. Registrations and cover can lapse, and details can change after a check. For legally restricted work, always confirm the current registration yourself with the body that issues it, as set out above.

What we are not responsible for

We are responsible for running this site properly and for handling your data as set out in our privacy notice. Beyond that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for the tradespeople you find here or for anything that happens in your dealings with them. In particular we are not responsible for:

What we do not exclude. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be excluded, and none of it affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other consumer law.

Quotes and prices

A quote comes from the tradesperson, not from us. Its price, its exclusions and its expiry date are theirs. Anything shown as an estimate before a tradesperson has seen the job is an indication of what work like yours typically costs, not an offer, and the quote you receive may differ.

Using the site

Describe your job honestly, do not submit requests for work you have no intention of having done, and do not use the site to harvest tradespeople's details for anything other than the job you are asking about.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protections of your own country's consumer law and can bring proceedings there.
